Ski Fog Night Pubs

SATURDAY 12 AUGUST 2023
Saturday turned out to be the highlight of the holiday. Varied weather: sun & heavy fog. Switched to skis. Exploring with Jemma,

Having been so clapped out Friday night, decided, in the middle of the night, to swap to skis.

Two main factors:
A) I was exhausted.
B) A key purpose of the trip was to be social with Jemma.

Early in the morning, called Rhythm Cooma to see if I could swap to Skis and do the swap at Smiggins. After some deliberation they said yes but that I may have to pay a changeover fee. Collected names of people I'd talked to.

Figured that would be OK and less than hiring from Perisher.

Morning ritual includes a hot shower to try assist muscles to wake up and making wraps.

We managed to leave our accommodation at 6:45 and arrived Smiggins about 7:00 (need to check times)

Rhythm Smiggins opened at 7:30 and I hobbled over.
They gave me skis, boots, poles and said no charge and to keep the board because it had to be returned to Cooma. They also mentioned that they don't normally do this. But they did.

The day stated beautifully And Jemma and I warmed up with a couple of runs down front valley.

We observed the queue for the quad express had reduced to sensible level so headed over. A few runs from mid station down and then we took it right to the top. Observed the top of the pretty valley Chair so did one last run to the bottom and then took it back to the top.

About now the fog rolled in and we made our way to the bottom of pretty valley with almost no visibility. Stopped for a very nice hot choc in the hope that the fog would clear. Unfortunately it had set in and we spent the rest of the day skiing with only a few metres of visibility. Several runs down pretty valley with no perspective.

Skied across to the interceptor.

Noted zero snow as we rode pleasant valley chair.

Took the home run back to Perisher. That's not an experience to repeat. Could not see a thing. Lots of walking for poor Jemma. Finally, exhausted, we made it back to front valley. Decided to check out "the pub". Only one food vendor open and purchased a beautiful plate of chips with BBQ sauce!
A rum and a scotch (in separate glasses) for me and a couple of alco ginger beers for Jem.

Texted Morgan pictures of fog to check if he was still coming up.

I took the bus back to Smiggins to retrieve the car.

Bought Jemma Night skiing.

Arrived back at the pub to find a small group of people clustered around watching the soccer on Jemma's phone. Transpired that the hotel TV's were giving grief.

The fog cleared and night skiing was awesome.

At 8:30pm we finished up skiing and trudged across to "the man from snowy River hotel". This was full of life. TV's showing all sorts of stuff. Fire cracking and a band playing. All three of us had a lovely dinner with beer or ginger beer depending on the person.

Home to bed

 WEDNESDAY 9 AUGUST 2023

Fly BNE->CBR QF911 Dep4:45 Arr 6:35

Henry met us at Canberra Airport and drove us home to Kellaway st.

Dinner was a absolutely stunning pork roast.  In the background we you can see a cake.  During dinner we called Chris to sing happy birthday to him and cut the cake.  Henry did mention that the cake was in honour of all the August birthdays.

Mused that someone would openly prepare a document titled security policy.

bl**dy algorithms

I did a post on face book the other day elucidating my thoughts on "the voice".  I think FB only shared it to a couple of people.

I also wonder, when I search for pretty much anything, the results rarely have any blogs. Mostly commercial.

Feels like big businesses is engaging in social engineering. We only get to read what they'd like us to read.

MON TUE WED

MON

A great row in a four:
1 Chris H
2 Bestie
3 Me
4 Richard R

At work, pay rise letters for staff.

In the evening, only Tim and Rob. Did my usual spag bog.  Afterwards Tim and Rob engaged in a game of guess the song.  Typically they could identify name of song, artist and a few fun facts after only a about one note.

TUE
Woke up many times in the night with a blocked nose, dry mouth and sore throat and no energy.  Too day off work.

Had a coffee with Derek and combined that with walking Magnus.

WED
Row in an eight.  It was muddy.  I was in bow seat and looked around a few times but Phoenix was doing a great job coxing.  One of the effect of bow seat is one can look down the boat and see others sins or good technique.  A bit judgemental.

SUNDAY 30-7-2023

 SUNDAY 30-7-2023

Starting with Saturday and Park Run really took it out of me.  Several naps during the day.

Sunday

Took Magnus on a walk and then jogged with Lucy to the Corinda dog park.  Lucy was suitably disobedient but eventually I captured her.  Jogging back was hard work.  I think I need new shoes with more padding.

Loaded my bike into the car and drove to Tim's place at Graceville.  Pumped up Tim's tires and went for a short ride to Graceville shops for breakfast and then rode back to Tim's place.

Grocery shopping.

Picked up Ant and then drove up to Mt Cootha for BBQ lunch

Back and met Brad at my place as he was collecting an ergo.  It's been a while since I've been under the house and there is a lot of stuff there being stored by others.

Then off to dance lesson at 5pm.

5-6 was ...

6-8 was the general dance bit.  I have learned some basics but still ploddy and I don't go from the name to the dance.  I guess like my disconnect between people and names.  This is certainly the most mentally draining thing.  By 8pm I am exhausted mentally and I leave even though the whole thing continues to 8:30.
