Good Friday

 GOOD FRIDAY 7 APRIL 2023

3:30 rise and shine.
Packed the esky from the fridge.
Off to rowing.
In a four - The Omrah.
Crafty
Rohan
Frank
Dave C.

The row started OK with just a light row to get into it.
Stopped a Gyatt Pk to tighten my foot stretcher. Then the zero to one hundred drill.
Then we rowed around the corner to the Sommerville reach. Then we did a pyramid 2 min at each of 20 22 24 22 20.  As we neared the end, Rohan's seat emitted that rattly noise flagging a dead wheel.  We did a u turn and headed over to Sommerville. A big crowd of women in bunny ears preparing to go rowing. Somehow bunny ears look cute on women of any age. Can't say The same when it comes to blokes. In fact the thought is quite weird. Rohan and Crafty went on search of a wheel and returned triumphant.  The ladies apparently parting with their last wheel.

We pushed off and did two more pyramids starting at 22 and 24 respectively.  The rowing was a bit ordinary. At 26 and above it felt (to me anyway) quite rushed.  The other interesting thing is perception of balance. The stroke siders complained about it being down on stroke side while the bow siders knew it was down on bow side.

After we washed and put away the boat I had a shower while the others went in search of a coffee shop.

Then A really nice thing happened, I was waiting to cross the bike track when a voice from the peloton called out "Hi Frank". It was Mel B. It was so nice to be acknowledged.

I received a text advising:
"Cheeky bean in Woolworth's centre". Coffee and a danish prepared and served by a team of girls resplendent in bunny ears.

After coffee, I drove round to river city women's to give them a couple of wheels.

Such a contrast to a men's rowing club.  Whereas we'd managed 4 rowers, they had a ton. All resplendent in bunny ears. A beautiful breakfast laid out. Then games - team relay egg and spoon race.

Then onto Toowoomba via Glenrich st (I'd forgotten the butter).

Coffee with Richard H. Great to chat with him and a friend of his.  It was very foggy in Toowoomba.

I swung by Boyce ct and Queens Park. Memories of happier times. Well... except for the last Easterfest where Megan had excluded me from the theming process and so I didn't stay.

Onto Warwick. Stopped and called Lewis but he was on his way to Killarney with dogs and wife.

Succumbed to a big mac.

Arrived at the Stanthorpe house and Marpa was in his element burning off.  No one else here so I got the keys from Rosemary. Pulie, Cinney and 2 littlies were there too.

Let myself in. Started a fire in the lounge room. Paul, Cybele, Ellie and Sam arrived.

It's raining. Medium drizzle to quite hard rain.

The power had gone out. As well as no light or electric kettle, This means the no pump for water. I filled a saucepan from the tank over flow and boiled water on the gas stove and made coffee.

Another downside of no power is no light to read by.

Pondering how our society has moved. Good Friday a public holiday to remember what? Oh yes Jesus, son of God killed on the cross as a symbol of sacrifice on behalf of mankind. Yet today bunny ears and chocolate egg and spoon races.

Sherwood UC projector

Sherwood UC has two video projectors. One at the front for the congregation to see and one at the back for the minister etal to see.

Many years ago, Tim S built a box to control them. Recently it had all stopped working.

Tim called to ask if I would help.

I was very happy to go to his place to look at the box.

Eventually we decided we needed to go to the church to see if there was a problem there. That was an emotional baggage trigger for me. Went anyway.

First off located a broken wire in a D9 gender bender. Wow isn't that a now un pc term.

Fixed that by soldering a new plug on the wire that had the wrong gender plug. However I still could not control the rear projector.

Today Friday 31 March,
We temporarily installed a new D9 cable. Initially that did not work. I was following the projector manual that said the comms was at 38400bps.  I thought I'd try 9600 and it worked.

In the end the issue was, Tim had thought there was a issue with his box and had changed the CPU chip and installed a program that followed the documentation AND the documentation was wrong AND there had been a broken wire.

Feeling down / depressed is not something I like.
It does feel like I have to focus hard when I feel myself going down.

Inadequacy & rejection seem to lurk in my thoughts.

I've had someone say to me "you are only depressed because you choose to be" at the time I thought you arrogant bitch! F#ck you! My current thinking is there is a thinking component to it. I'm modelling it as a flywheel spinning on its axis. One way is happy and the other is sad. Stuff happens that kicks the wheel along.   If it's spinning in the happyness direction then sh%te might slow it a bit but moment keeps it spinning.   If it's spinning in the sad direction then any bit of bad stuff just kicks it along and it's hard to stop it and get it to spin in the happy direction. The other difficulty is if it's stationary then it doesn't take much to spin it one way or the other. Not sure if it's a perfect analogy but an interesting thought.

Listening on spotify to Episode 307:The science of Emotional Intelligence | Daniel Goleman :
Mindfulness can be likened to physical exercise.  The more you repeat an exercise, the stronger or fitter you get.  The parallel as I get t, the more you think about certain things or in a certain way, then the more that thought process gets stronger.

When does the photo of a black cat become a silhouette ?

at 16:00 they discuss teaching emotional intelligence.  How much better kids with emotional intelligence do in life.

Flat Battery - Captiva

Seems 'tis the season for flat batteries.  This morning as I got in my car I put my foot on the brake and thought that it was odd that the brake lights did not light up the carport.  It was however 4am and so I put it down to another craptiva idiosyncrasy.  All was made clear though when I turned the key and the starter motor groaned.  Slowly turned the engine which luckily fired and off I drove to rowing.

Arrived west end to over hear another guy had a flat battery in a merc of all things. Then one of our eights had a flat cox box.

After rowing, the starter motor again did its best under arduous conditions.  I figured I'd better leave it running while I bought a coffee.  Didn't want to  tempt fate.

I then plugged in my ODB2 doodad and had a look on the app on the phone.   While driving it was only 14V whereas I'd expected more like 16.  All was revealed when the engine was switched off.  I do note that I need to set a base line for my 0-100.  Just need to find a quiet suburban St with no red light cameras.

feeling down

I'm a moody bugga. I don't like feeling down. I don't want to feel down. But right now I do feel down. Sagged. Heavy. Alone.

I guess no one to share with contributes.  Both in personal life and work situation. Board?

The brain churns. Going over and over stuff. That doesn't help because one needs calmness to make good decisions.

I feel overwhelmed at work.
It feels like people are getting fixated on little details and coming to me and deluging me in them.

A part number numbering issue.
A safety issue about doing personal stuff on ones own after hours.
