5pm hired a nuron scooter on upper Edwards St.

The accelerator was very touchy as were the brakes on the back wheel. 

Met Phoebe at Doobop bar.  It was so nice to be surprised by her on the footpath as I finished off the scooter ride on the app.

 

She'd been dropped in town by her son and brought an over night bag so we took the train back to Corinda and onto home. 

 

 

 

Thoughts on Tax

With the end of the financial year approaching, I have been giving some thought to the "lower taxes" message that seems synonymous with conservative / liberal politics.

 We are given the message that lower taxes stimulate growth but with some thought this seems paradoxical to me.

First as I understand it, Growth is in essence more economic activity.  More stuff being made and bought more services being offered and consequently consumed. 

So at first glance it would seem that lower taxes would put more money in peoples pockets to spend and hence more consumption and more economy.  I think this is true for low and middle income people who are essentially living from pay to pay and don't have spare money for discretionary spending.  It would seem to me that for rich people, this is not the case.  For rich people, lower taxes and consequently more money does not necessarily translate to more spending because they already have enough money to buy whatever they want.  

Now rich people are the people with the resources to fund investment, R&D and so on.  

I think there is an argument to say that the rich people and companies should actually be subject to a much higher marginal tax rate.  People hate paying tax and do what they can to pay less tax.  Remember that tax is paid on profit.   So a high tax rate provides a motivation for people to spend some of their money on things that can be expensed like borrowing to invest and R&D come to mind.

TAFE ShowCase

MONDAY on my way to work, I dropped into the pink coffee shop at Oxley and ordered a coffee as you do.  The young fellow that had served me for several years was there.  Previously always in his St Peters uniform but this time not.  Conversation and it was established that he was doing audio production at TAFE and further more they were having a showcase at the Princess theatre on Tuesday night.

Sounded interesting so I asked Phoebe if she would like to go and she was.

TUESDAY
Picked her up and drove in.  Thai at a nearby cafe.

The showcase was fun.  4 bands.  We stayed for two because I had to get up at 3:50am the next morning.  

They had students operating the PA and lighting as well as students in the bands.  The second band had a name like agents of pain.  Huge energy.  So much fun to watch.

25/6 UKE Phoebe Cake

Tuesday day and Phoebe and I traded texts.  I got the hint that she'd like me to accompany her to a dinner with her ukulele group.

Met Aaron who I know from Monday night men's group and his wife and son.  Most of the guests kids attend state high.  Men and kids sat around a fire pit.

Awake.  A bit low. 

Is it the state of the world?

It's the dead marriage anniversary. On the 20th 

The government seems to want ever more control and the people just love it.

Kind of started this yesterday morning the 20th. Now it's 1am on the 21st.

I feel low.

FRIDAY 20/6

Row was good. The 8 was cancelled. 2 seat had called in sick. There was some confusion while we realised only 4 of us were actually present.  In the end:

Was a pretty reasonable row. 

Work was a mixture. Got a pricing detail away. A tech problem on one design remains. Stubbornly.

Nice roast lamb dinner with Phoebe's XMIL and Fletch and Jai.

Had thought PAM was coming back to my place but she hadn't packed a bag for that. 

Maybe it's just the reminder of the marriage fail. I recall EOMA popped up on my phone during the afternoon of Marcus's wedding while I was standing on the hotel deck. 

Maybe it's just thinking about a life of mediocrity and under achievement. 

Things not achieved. 

Lack of realising what could be.

20th also Tim's birthday and I forgot to drop in or call.  Was too fixated on getting home, feeding mags and getting to dinner.

Qantas Points Value

 Qantas offer three seat prices.
Red-E-Deal, Flex and Classic.
Red-E-Deal and Classic seem to be the same except that Classic is selected up front as a points payment.  If one chooses Red-E-Deal, one can at the end, pay with points.

There is also Classic plus and Business classic all of which are different points type seats 

So If we choose a  flight sometime in the future when simple classic flights are available in both directions

If we choose the  Red-E-Deal the total dollars is $983 and at the checkout, we can use points.  At the check out, using 32000 points and we still need to pay about $820 rather than $312 so we will use the value above to asses the values of a point.  That is 0.02096875 $/Pt or 47.69 $/pt

 Now RED energy are offering 15000 points.  The question is what is 15000 points worth in dollars.

So 15000 pts x 0.02096875 $/Pt = $314.53

So the question now is how much cheaper will
