 6-9-2022 Update
The party may not occur.  Looking at options to travel to Canberra

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Murray's bus is probably the easiest because it leaves from the domestic terminal.  It's the fastest at 3hrs compared to 4-5hrs for train options.  Bus is $55 compared to slightly cheaper train fares of about $33 incl the bus to central.

A train would be tones more scenic.  A bus is a bus and I hate buses.

A) Henry drives to Sydney airport and collects us
b) Steal Jame's car
c) Murrays bus
3hrs $51 leave hourly from Domstic

TRAINS
There is track work and busses replace trains on airport line.  There is a bus to Central and also a bus to Sydenham
d) Long Distance Train to Canberra $55 plus Bus to Central ?1hr  $3
Departs12:06pm 4hrs so a total of about 5 hrs.

e) Suburban Train to Campbeltown - Looks like they stop at Sydenham and don't need to go all the way to Central.  Also they do not seem to stop at Wolli Creek.  Every 10 minutes $5.06
f) Train to Golburn
Bus to Central $2.65
Yes there are suburban commuter trains $6.51 but only a couple and the earliest is 5:03pm arrive Goulburn at 9pm.
Long distance train to Goulburn 3hrs Dep Central at 12:06 Arr Goluburn 3pm $29 or $38 First Class.  This one does not stop at Sydenham.
g) New air ticket to Canberra
Virgin    $369   5:20PM
Qantas  $330   6am
Jetsar  $242 11:25am
Rex       $468 via Mel 3.5 hrs ouch
h) Change ticket

Monday 29 Aug

Row - BGRC Quad Tim, Rohan, Frank, Graeme.  Normally we row sweep so it was a nice change to row a quad. A bit frustrating as it was down on stroke side.  Graeme was emphasising the need to get oars buried before you push with legs.
Collected 3 speed coaches from the grammarians.  Could not find T brackets or mounting straps. They used to have two.
Breakfast at  West end Park Cafe.  Texted Jemma and established she was rowing in her pair with Emma at Commercial. Invited her to join.  Interestingly both had a west end special with poached eggs.  Genetics or environmental?
Work and I'm reviewing a invoicing issue with a customer.
Interviewed a tech and a student.
1pm Gasbot weekly meeting.
2:30pm Collected drill from work.
Drove via Bunnings and picked up 4 bits of that giant mechano to make mounting plates.
3:50 Centenary
Shared tinnie with Nicky.  Margo took the two older / fast doubles.  Nicky had 3 gr9 doubles and I chauffeured.
7@ Mick's place for Monday night men's group.  He's a very talented artist. Craftsman and photographer.
Saw the great engineered fire drum.

centenary Rowing and Brigidine the end

I had thought there was the opportunity to do something different to the big private schools.

Now seems Brigidine actively do not want to engage in any kind of cooperative approach.

Really disappointing

The atmosphere is cold.  The fun side and enthusiasm seems to have evaporated.  I suspect numbers will shrink and that will be the end. The communication from Brigidine has been last minute and functional.  There does not seem to have been any atteempt at team building or explaining a vision.

Not that it's all Brigidine's fault.  There's been some dumb things on the Centenary side with some interpersonal issues, petty bloody-mindedness and intransigence

I think a problem that besets many clubs across probably all sports  is how to deal with bad behaviour by volunteers.

I am actually quite saddened by Centenary atm-
Centenary don't even want to give Brigidine a key.  What message does that give.  To me it says "not welcome" or at least "we don't really want too engage".
Centenary are not sending kids to the two QSRC regattas in T4.
They are basing the rhythm of the year around Nationals.  OK for performance but what about everyone else.  The club was set up to provide rowing for schools.
They dreamed up a communications policy that prevents people from posting photos on social media.  BUT they have not published it on the web site nor to my knowledge communicated it to the club  Maybe I missed it.

I think at the moment, my feelings are to take a break completely from Centenary for T4.  I think my values and their values are quite different.

Boys night

So nice sitting round the fire and talking. It's been a great pick me up.

Tonight at my place.
Tim, Dave,  Steve,  Rob, Mick, Chris and myself.

Had a fire drum although petrol alone was not enough to start it.  Had to gather twigs from the garden.

Monday was very full.   Back on  Friday I'd had a puncture and the tyre people told me they were at the end of their life.  The tyres that is.  So I booked the car in for Monday for two new tyres.  Separately, after the enjoyment of Jemma's 18th I'd invited my Monday night group to come and sit round the fire.  Then realised I had coaching duties.

5:50 departed Centenary

Jemma's 18th Birthday Party

Jemma's 18th birthday party was held at Glenrich st. This is the place I rent.  Has a nice big back yard.

Jemma organised a 'Garland' with "18" on it for photos.  I set up lights, fire drums and a big sign out the front.  Megan did a great job with food.  Sean & Erin came as bouncers.

Really nice bunch of kids.  No issues and no gate crashers or if there were,  they didn't create trouble.

I'd been concerned about it being too chilly and ordered a couple of Mushroom gas heaters.  In the end it was pretty mild and they were not needed.

Jemma had gone through various archives and printed hundreds of photos.  It's nice to flick through them.

Row Out Loud

I participated in a "rowathon" called "Row out Loud"

In this case it's for an organisation: "love out loud", that seeks to raise money to distribute to organisations assisting with youth mental health.

From a personal point of view, I can say that depression is a debilitating thing. In my case a very recent adult thing and my contact with young people means I'd like us to do everything we can to help them.

So consider donating some money by clicking on the link.
As an aside, this rowathon is a team thing and the team organiser put me on at 1am. He knew that I often wake around 1am feeling very depressed and figured, correctly I might add, that 1am would be a good time to do an erg. More productive than wordle Ha
🙂

I turned up at about 12:45 and Chris A was on the machine hooking along at 2:05.  I did some stretching and then observed people filling in a waver.  I read said waver and decided it was a bit presumptios and so crossed out bit associated with faulty equipmet

wyaralong Met West Trial

Today in the drizzle at Wyaralong 5 girls associated with Centenary
 (Kenmore)
(Brigidine)
 (Stuartholme)
Jemma (Brigidine)
(Brigidine rows at commercial)
Lined up to compete for places in the girls met-west quads.

At the end of term 3, the schools gather for state championships. In addition to the school v school races,  each region marshalls the 4 of their best rowers to create a quad of kids from various schools to compete against other regions.  Our region is met west and includes stuartholme, Kenmore, St Peters and Brigidine.

Great to Mike O, Peter W  Tanya drove out to make it happen.  I also ran into Georgia and Cameron who coached with Brigidine and Gabby (Gretta's mum)

As I was leaving,  put my foot in it by saying something dumb.

SATURDAY
Felt a bit light headed sat AM.
8am fire drums delivered.
Breakfast club at Cafe 26 at indooroopilly.  Just Tim, Meredith, Phoebe and me.  Just had a long black.
Went and visited Eddie in Greenslops. 11:30-1pm
Went into work for a bit.  Looked at the board pcie interconnect issue.
Sat night:
A night of Stars at Brigidine

SUNDAY
7:30 helped kids get on the water.
8:30 left centenary. Home shower over to thallon st.
9:30 Jemma and I drove to UQ
10:20 arrived 20 late for talk on nutrition science.
11 am drove home.
1200 lunch.
Put up first string of fairy lights.
2:00 depart for Victoria pt
3:05pm watched the Elvis movie.
6:00 dinner.
9:30 and I'm home.

Elvis movie. So depressing. I take people at face value. Believe what they say. Hay looks like I've something in common with Elvis. Who'd have thought. He was surrounded, like many artists, by others who put their own gain first. Makes me value those around me so much more because they gain no benefit from me and from time to time I hurt them.

A few trigger points - Priscilla was deeply in love with Elvis but Elvis drug wrecked it and Priscilla left reluctantly.

Thursday Fog

Wordle 411 4/6
Kind of resonates with Tuesday -
Fog is symbolic of wordle and my mind. Can't see so far in the distance but things becomes clear when you are close.
A side effect being when the distance is obscured one can focus on the immediate. Hmm should I also switch off Facebook?
