Loading Boats into the water

 Centenary have no ramp and a temporary beach has been constructed.  

At low tide it is really quite hard to load boats in.

There are two ways this can be done.  The traditional method is to put the boat in the water and then put the oars in.  I believe that a faster way is to put the boats in trestles and put the oars in and then carry the boat down with the oars ready to go.

On two occasions I have observed the process and recorded some times.  The times are from when the hull touches the water until the kids are in the boat and pushing off.

In summary it takes about half the time to launch if the oars are already in.  

 

 

 

 

Captiva Insurance

Captiva insurance due and the insurer kindly sent me a reminder email which had a huge amount of over $2k.  Nudged me to action though.  A couple of months ago I had gotten some on line quotes and my existing insurer - Alianz was the cheapest.  Redid the online quote and paid.

 

 

 

 

TV or Projector for work

 The video projector at work blew up.  Literally. The bulb (I assume) when bang and what a bang it was.  Exploded.
4k is  3,840 x 2,160 pixels
I think UHD means 4k.  Kind of a consumerisation. 
UHD technically is 3,840 x 2,160 pixels while 4k is 4,096 by 2,160 but it seems the consumer UHD products are marketed as 4k

QLED is just a LCD with some enhancement.  It's not OLED.
OLED is an invividual LED per pixel
ULED is ??? Still has a back light

Samsung Crystal UHD - its a processor chip rather than a display technology.

9-11-2022 UPDATE - INSTALLATION

I figured I would engage in a bit of practical work (read displacement activity) and hang it on the wall myself.  

It's a metal frame gyproc wall and I wanted the bracket to be supported across 3 studs. Couldn't buy a long enough one so I bought two and joined them together. 

Interestingly the bracket I'd bought with it from JB HIFI, whilst labelled "tilt" was not tiltable in that you'd expect to be able to tilt after installation.  Went and had a look and bought the bunnings bracket.  You know how you look up and down the idle and subtly dismantle the package in store.   It is a neat piece of design and most importantly allows you to adjust angle after the TV is hung on the wall.

I have a Microsoft Wireless Display adapter
Firmware version: 3.9520.47
Plugged into a 4K Hisense TV HDMI port.

When I switch the TV to that HDMI port it says the connection is 3840x2160P as expected.
It also says 8bit BT2020 16:9 YUV444HDR10

BUT some detail is missing. Most noticeable is if I bring up a Excel spreadsheet, the little thin grey lines between the cells are not displayed.

Other greys are missing too.

If I connect from my laptop to the TV by an HDMI cable the picture is perfect - The thin lines are present and the light grey areas are light grey not white.

I have tried a second 4k TV and the problem is there too and have also tried several laptops some win 10 and some win 11

I have tried duplicated displays and expended display.

It seems pretty conclusive that it is the adapter.

It feels like some kind of auto scaling issue that is dropping some information.

Any suggestions as to why the problem is happening and how to fix it.

Below are some pictures. The top two pictures show the difference between using a cable and the wireless adapter.

An interesting update. While I was taking these photos, I was connected to the TV using the Microsoft wireless adapter and I brought up the display settings window and suddenly observed that just to the left of that window, the thin excel lines are visible.

It seems to me that the problem is that the Microsoft adapter is misinterpreting the brightness information. It's akin to washing out.

I watched it again and thought the message does not sound right. (Not just the grammar)

I agree with the first one but the second two I think are best forgotten. 

It's far too easy to ruminate over the negative and get sucked into a rabbit hole of self pity. In my opinion, thinking that way sounds very much like blaming others.  Popular these days but it blinds you from considering what you yourself may have done that contributed to your situation. 

I would suggest a better message would be:

Never forget:

1 Those who helped you in your time of need. 

2 Those who are in your life with you now. 

3 Those who need your help

 Today rowed in the Head of The Brisbane (HOB).

After we went to Cafe "Superthing" 215 Montague Rd.

We got off to a good start.  In my opinion "good" means the boat was balanced and we rowed in time and the speed was good.  As we headed up toward the Elanor Schonel bridge we overtook two crew and were chased by a Toowong crew.  As we headed up the Sommerville reach the Toowong crew ground us down and slowly passed us near the green rocks.  

We did a great handbrake turn at the turnaround mark. We came in fast.  Maddie called stroke side to lighten off and then check.  Bow side were exalted to pull hard on the oar.  The mark was right there beside us as we turned and we saw that there were lots of other boats taking wider turns. As we pulled away, we saw a grey boat called "loan market" almost crash into the bank.

We got it back together as we headed downstream.  Rounded the corner to the Sommerville reach.  We could see three eights bearing down on us.  They pounded past.  The strength of youth.  After they past, we settled in with good rythm.  past the tinne and the final marker before heading for the red buoy. As the tide was heading out, we past close to the red buoy in order to take as much advantage as possible from the outgoing tide.  Under the bridge and a supporter encouraged us on.  I think it's about 1km to the finish and we settled in.  I think the speed faded a bit but Maddie got us to refocus and the speed picked up.  A little confusion abouty the exact loaction of the finish line and then we were done.  

All in all a great race.  Again because the boat sat up and it felt like everyone put in max effort.

Made the mistake of importing stuff from edge which I had previously allowed to import from some kind of backup.  Not sure if it was microsoft or google but none the less, I have not ended up with the same bookmarks.
Right click in the bookmarks toolbar.
Choose "Manage Bookmarks" > All Bookmarks > Bookmarks Toolbar
Observe my bookmarks did get imported but so many others like Lenovo and McAfee  Stan 9Now 7plushave pushed them aside.  Delete the unwanted ones.
Half way there - have some or maybe all but none of the icons.

Scroll Bars are too narrow.
Type About:Config in the address bar.  Accept the warning.
I had some issues with the search bar.

rejected ajain

Rejected again last night. 

Had a date at a whisky bar in town called "death and taxes". Great decor. Rejected at the end of the night.   Similar story earlier in the week.  Different girl. Had had a previous date but then she didn't have time for a second.  Story of my life. 

I waver, if that's the right word, wonder if I need to get used to the idea of being alone for the rest of my life. As I don't want to be alone,  how does one get over that. 

Rocktober

FRIDAY

Dinner with Lewis & Clare and their minister at a pub in Warwick. Mulled wine was on the menu. First time I've been able to have some in Oz. None of the places at the snow had it. It was served hot as it should be. Interestingly it was served very hot and I liked that. It slowed rate of drinking. 

On to Stanthorpe. Pulled over on the way for a doze. Later I missed the Eukey Rd turn off but realised when the road crossed a creek just a k or two later. I think the dinosaur was not lit. The intersection seemed very dark. 

Arrived a bit before 10pm.

Observed Dan and Steven erecting their tent. Took ages. Dan's car went flat. Jump started. Present idea: Jumper leads. 

Slept in my car.  I've put the seats down and put in a single mattress.

Walked to the waterfall via the big rock. 

No service at the hut. when we got to the Rock, had to do wordle real quick before we all moved on. 

Dan went in for a swim. 

On the way back we stayed into a fellows yard.  He'sbuilt an amazing house. He escorted us out.  He was very keen that we did not have dogs. 

Sunday evening

Phil cooked spag bog then went down to Rosemary's and watched Panthers thrash eels in the NRL grand final.  At 70 minutes it's 28 to nil.
