2013 New Years Eve

New years eve party at Paul & Cybele's.

These things are organised on what's app but I can't bring myself to read. Too triggering.  Paul kindly texted me this morning to invite me. 

I'd been pondering what to do and a part of that had been wondering what was happening with this crowd but not been able to bring myself to open what's app.

Last year I'd mixed audio for a bush dance but it was not on this year. The previous year I'd stayed home alone and that was not good.

Alternative to Notepad++

 I have been using notepad++ to edit code.

Problem is that when I copy and paste code into notepad++, it stores it as unicode and not pure ASCII.  The problem is that some characters that look like spaces are not and further troweling the notepad++ forums show that this problem has been around and the authors do not want to do anything about it.

Cox Box Mic - Old Type

 Had to replace the BNC connector.

It's 50R BNC for RG58.

My crimp tool has jaws for RG58 and RG59 outer but the pin crimper was not small enough and I had to put some solder into the centre pin.

I only had 3 speakers.  Thought I had more.

To do:
1.   Fix the speakers.
2.   Add labels
3.   Order more speakers.  (57mm waterproof)

 

 

Also bought 4 of these speakers because at 5W they might be a bit more robust.  Don't know if they will fit in though. Feb delivery though.

Saturday Night Jazz

 Went and saw Dave play at the "Jazz Music Institute" (JMI) in Exhibition St Bowen Hills.

Saw Steve and Tom in the audience.  Tom is the dance master.

Potatoe Bake

Slice potatoes

Lay in pyrex dish.

Cook in microwave with some small amount of water. 5 minutes. 

Drain off water.

Sprinkle stock powder over.

Pour cream over the top.

Sprinkle cheese on top.

I made a pressure valve

The intent is to be able to simulate an adjustable back-pressure.  When the pump operates, the water pushes against the spring.  When the pump stops, the spring pushes the plunger closed.  The more the tap is turned off, the higher the pressure.

1 Open the tap

Measure the length.  Later I cut it back by a couple of mm

 So I have been staring at the screen. Had it open for hours.  (Not staring at it continuously)  Buying a ticket for one is a tough gig.  What are my options?  Buy for one or stay home alone.  Pretty shitty options.  I did ask a couple of people but they all had other things to do and got a bit of a case of envy as some of those other things sounded pretty good too but I was not invited.

Same problem applies to movies, footie, motor racing...etc.  Going on my own is some thing I guess I have to suck up.

Feelings and emotions are weird things. 

 

Pretty good play.  The futility of this kind of war, good intentions, navigating media and politics, personal struggles, Individual heroic acts, a culture that is fundamentally different to our own.  

Too a taxi home  $45.  Uber was way more - about $80 as I recall.
