50 Shades (SPOILER !!! ALERT !!!!)

Megan and I went to see the 50 shades of grey movie last night.

I was pleasantly surprised.  It was different to what I was expecting and the differences make for good points to discuss over a coffee.

Sherwood Church Flashpoint

Today is Flashpoint. Flashpoint is a children's worship service that Megan and I run.  Usually on the last Sunday of the month.

I arrived at Church to setup and discovered a giant mulcher was disrupting the good order of nature.  I figured the good Lord would have difficulty hearing our prayers  :).

I chatted with the men and established that they planned to be there for another couple of hours.    After a deep breath and a recalibration of my brain, I figured change of venue was required.  (Later I saw two luminaries from our church shooing them off)

Feel sorry for any of the neighbors.  This thing was so loud.  Imagine if you planned a nice quiet Sunday and this thing parked in your driveway.  After they left us they just moved next door.

We moved into the "Fellowship Room" at the church.

The "Science" Lesson was based on Mark 9:2-9 where Jesus is "Transfigured" - changed.  We made pancakes.  Liquid changed to solid bu cooking.  :)

Janet did communion and did it really nicely.  She got each kid to hold the cup and the plate with the bread and offer it to a friend and say "This is the body of Christ broken for you" and "This is the blood of Christ".  Once the receiver had eaten their bread they then took the bread and wine and passed the message onto the next person.

After Church everyone met in the Fellowship Room for morning tea.  The kids ramped up the production of pancakes (pikelets)

BSHS Regatta @ Kawana

Basking in the reflected glory of others.

The BGS first eight with Chris in 6 seat crossed the line in 1st place today (2nd Race). The boys (young men ) inspired by their great coach have been putting in tons of effort training in the gym and on the water and this 1st was well deserved. Following that they then rode push bikes back to Brisbane.

The big race is on youtube.  First 8 at 8:24

Here they are after the regatta about to ride to Brisbane.  Chris is in the middle.

Back to dawn and I met the BGS boats on Gympie Rd just after the tunnel.

It was just after dawn.  Shortly after this I stopped for a coffee.

My task was to set up a camera on the finish line and beam the signal back to the parents and the boys tents. We did this using old analogue video gear operating in a little bit of unlicensed spectrum at 10GHz. We did have a technological issue with continual dropouts during the day. Pretty sure it was with the wiring at the transmitter end. This week's job is to try and locate the problem and fix it.

This is the picture of the first 8 just after the race.

This is the microwave receiver and horn antenna at the Parents tent.

Under the table - A 40AH battery.

The boys tent.  The receiver is in a plastic bag to keep it waterproof.

Taize in the heart of Brisbane

Participated in a Taize service lead by several of the brothers who are touring Oz from Taize in France.

Taize style is low key, medative. Many people sit on the floor. My kind of thing. bare feet too if you (like me) like that.
The singing is a bit like a chant where one sings the same one or two line verse over and over again hence it is quite medative.
There was a short sermon and also ten minutes of silence for reflection. So good for thinking through and relaxing. No good if you are the sort of person who needs action to entertain you.
After the service they had pizza. Mountains of pizza.
Met David Baker and Tim Hills.

I arrived on the dot of 4:00pm

About half the auditorium had seats and the remainder had had the seats removed and a mat on the ground.  Sat there.  Removed shoes.

The service began.

Music was great.  Megan was the conductor.  I thought a very nice "mix".  I could hear some acoustic guitar through the PA as well as some singers.  Turned out as much good luck as anything.  No one knew where the sound desk was.  They had two radio hand helds and a radio lapel.  The lapel was shoved in the sound hole on the guitar.

As I sat in the service,  I pondered what was behind the alter. In the Anglican cathedral its all a bit dark and gloomy but here it was well lit with a glass wall. You can see the light streaming through the door to the left of the organ pipes.

After the service I wandered up behind the main alter to see how they had lit it and found a glass wall with sunlight streaming in.  This seemed odd because the wall was facing east and it was late afternoon.
Outside and the glass wall is in that round bit to the left.  It seems maybe a cluey architect had made use of the light reflecting off glass sky scrapers.

The majority of the cross light and the bright light on the grass on the photo above were being reflected from this building.

Church 2-FEB-2015

I was on duty to do the tech stuff at church.  Chris was supposed to help but he is home in bed crook.

I recruited "James" from the congregation to operate the sound desk.  I looked after the power point computer.  I had previously prepared the power point but due to the busyness of BGS rowing on Fri & Saturday and my own row early Sunday morning, the PP was a bit bland.

The PP has all the words to hymns and various responses that the congregation participate in.  Normally the author of the PP will add some graphics and pictures to liven it up.  I had not done that so I figured lets add pictures of people who are here right now.

I would wander round the church and snap someone on my phone.  The challenge was to get the pictures from my phone to the PP.  I sent the pictures to my blog.  Then on the PP computer, which had an internet connection, I could down load them and add them to the PP.

Sean cottoned on to what I was doing and snapped a pic of him and Erin and texted it to me.  I then added it to the PP by the same method.  Last pic below.
