Kids Church Object Lessons Through Science
https://thomsoneu.blogspot.com/2011/02/flashpoint-27-feb-2011.html
Matthew 6:24 Children's Bible Talk / Object Lesson)
6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
We put a piece of 50mm square x 1500mm long piece of wood down on the dais.
Then balanced a piece of 24mm thick 1200 x 1200 ply on it. Like a see saw.
Invited the kids to come and stand on it and get it to balance. Then tried to get them to move aorund while having it balanced.
Then got them all to move to one end of the see saw piece of wood. Now we are not trying to keep it balanced. Then asked some to walk around on it. Do not worry about the balance. Now it is easy to walk.
The Message - Get your priorities right. Put God as your first priority.
FLASHPOINT Based on Isaiah 49:8 Object Lesson / Children's talk
"Thus says the LORD: In a time of favor I have answered you, on a day of salvation I have helped you"
This would actually work better with
Ephesians 6:10-20 -
Strength in God. Preparation -> strength. Armour -> protection. Lots of prayer.
https://thomsoneu.blogspot.com/2015/08/flashpoint-what-inside.html
- what's inside that counts- See below
Make bubbles with air - Throw on a match - Nothing happens.
Make bubbles with Propane and throw a match on.
Message - God's spirit inside makes things happen.

Mark1:9-15 - Jesus is Baptised by John.
This is a nice little obect lesson using chemistry to show that we can do a bit when we are good but it's the entry of Gods Holy Spirit into our lives that really makes thing happen.
https://thomsoneu.blogspot.com/2011/03/flashpoint-27-03-2011-woman-at-well.html
John 4:5-42 Woman at the well.
The basic message we had was that just as our body needs physical water so to our soul needs spiritual water to refresh it.
Science Experiment 1
Before the kids arrived, put some water and blue food colouring in a tray and let it soak up into a paper towel. When the kids arrived did the one on the left.
The analogy is that the paper sucks up the water like our soul sucks up the living water Jesus talks about in the bible reading.
This is a pretty slow experiment so we then did the balloon experiment while this one did it's thing.
Science Experiment 1
Hold a balloon above a flame and it pops.
Put some water in the balloon and it does not pop.
Being filled with spiriual water means are protected.

John 3:1-17 Born Again
Make oxygen using alfoil and hydrogen peroxide in a jar. Light a match. Blow it out hold it in the top of the jar and the oxygen makes it relight.

Chris Drives To Surat
Schools out and Chris went and got his learners permit. For a bit of driving practice, we drove to Surat. I actually had another reason and that was that we have added remote monitoring to the Nutridose and this was the first field installation. I wanted to meet the installer and ensure that the system went in and worked.
Below we see the main water tank (Silver) and the feed supplement tank (Green).
Even though the Nutridose is in a weatherproof box, Farmers often place that box under cover. Using an old fridge is not uncommon.
Landscape -
The cattle are way off in the distance at the end of the black pipe.
The white square is the satellite terminal. It communicates with our server. The farmer can view the status of the equipment and control it via a web page.
In the foreground, the short white pipe is the conductivity probe. It is placed downstream of the injection point so that the injected supplement has time to mix with the water.
This is a key safety feature.
One of the problems with feed supplements is that if something goes wrong and the cattle get too much supplement then they die. That is a very bad thing and so we have gone to a lot of trouble to make a very reliable system with several safety features and interlocks.
Installing the tank level meter.
The tank level amongst other parameters is reported back over the satellite so the supplement tank can be refilled when it is getting low.
If you want to freak out a learner driver get on a dirt road with a road train coming past.
No stopping because if there is one behind you then they wont see you because of the dust.

BGRC AGM
Brisbane Grammarians Rowing Club AGM. I unexpectedly got a "most improved" award.
I stood for but did not get elected to the committee. I was on it this year. We only met a couple of times. I think most work was done behind the scenes.

Prepaid Phone Plans
Jemma now has a mobile and Dan is complaining he has no data so time to compare prepaid phone plans.
The first thing I learn is that those web sites that proport to compare and give you the best deal do a really awful job. for example http://www.whistleout.com.au/MobilePhones/Prepaid-Mobile-Phone-Plans-Under-30 But they are handy to get the names of service providers. maybe I'm just using it wrong. But $2 / day is $60/month and that's not "under $30".
It seems there is a premium if you want "Infinite Voice". My gut feel is that kids need [can do with] less voice and more data and text. Megan tends to use 200+ minutes voice mine is about 100 and Chris is around 50. So I will look for prepaid on the basis of lots of data but say 100minutes of voice
One thing I used to be wary of was plans that did not include 13 numbers. It seems now that they all include 13 numbers.
BEST
My gut feel is the Boost Mobile at $20 for 1GB data and infinite texts. A nice bonus of 500MB EVERY weekend.
SURPRISING
Would be Telstra who at $30 have 1.3GB data, Unlimited text and about 700min voice.
HIGH DATA
Amaysim $39.90 with 5GB data.
MY WISH
would be a way of getting a group or family discount. It would need a way of capping the usage of each handset and by capping I mean when the limit for that handset is reached then it simply stops. Surely with 5 handsets for this family someone can do a deal!

Idea Of North Concert
We are at St John's for an "Idea of North" concert. Greeted by a poignant reminder of the effects of off shore detention. Then annoy people I find in the audience
Ute - Spark Plugs & Coil Packs
The ute, having survived well past its useby date, was running rough. Engaged Chris Thomson to change the coil packs and spark plugs. Took it for a spin along ipswich rd. On the whole running better. The coil packs are the line of round things. The rags in the photo are shoved into various openings to protect against dropping things in. We still ended up short a bolt. Nowhere to be found.
