The repair man came.
I never realised you could take the top off by undoing the screws at the hotplates.
The green thing that generates the high voltage for the spark was replaced.
The jets were removed using a socket from the top and cleaned out.
There was an old problem with too much gas on the middle burner when it was on low. There is a screw down the bottom of the control shaft. He tried that but it was jammed. It was decided to leave it "as is" because the screws apparently break off and then we would be up for a significant expense.
