My memories of the day include:
Cleaning the overgrown back yard at 144 Mackenzie St and building a huge bonfire to burn it all off.
Then walking up tabletop.
Very hot day.
Dad collapsing.
Running back down the mountain and knocking on doors to use a phone. The first place, the lady wouldn't let me in. Maybe she thought I wanted to rob her. Next place, the lady gave me a cold drink while I waited for the ambulance.
Guiding the ambulance down to the parking area and then walking to the top of the hill.
Waiting forever at the top. The sun went down. It was blowing a gale.
They were rumours of a helicopter ride out but apparently too windy.
Walked out in the dark by the SES? I think cousin Andrew was there. They had choc bits to keep us energised.
