Ever wondered how much sugar is in a can of coke?
Nope! OK
Well As I understand the words on the can we have 40g per serve and a serving size of 375ml and 375ml written on the can so I assume we have 40g of sugar in the can.
And just how much is 40g of sugar. I get out the kitchen scales. Zero them with a glass and start spooning in the sugar. Well the tin was labeled as sugar but it seemed a finer grind than normal sugar. Upon interrogation it appears part of Megan's 'no sugar' thing is to get rid of cane sugar and replace it with Glocose. (Dextrose).
Now I wonderd if glucose was the same density as cane sugar but in the end I do not know what sort of sugar is in coke. Maybe it is the dreaded High Fructose Corn Syrup wheich is bad even if just because it has an acronym (HFCS) that sounds bad.
Mind you I do confess the photo is a bit misleading. The glass is a slightly smaller diameter than the can of coke.
So next time you are feeling like a can of coke and don't have one, just get a glass put in a few dessert spoons of sugar and a spoonful of Nescafe and then just eat it. Add water if you like.
I'm told Oz coke doesn't use corn syrup, so is perhaps marginally better!
ReplyDeleteHi Kyle,
ReplyDeleteYes. Absolutely. It would seem HFCS is bad and given Aussie coke uses plane sugar then it has to be better.
I am grouping coke with red wine and dark chocolate in that group of foods with medicinal uses.
Given that coke and weetbix are better than sultanabran and milk, then coke has got to be good for you.
:)
