Where to Find Data

A real pity you cant find it on an offcial QLD Government Web Site

Ventilator - DIY Development

Specs are hard to some by  -collating here
I think we will need:
A valve to switch inlet air
A valve to switch outlet air - needs low resistance
A flow sensor (maybe) - to detect how much air has gone in.
A pressure sensor - to detect when a breath has been initiated.

Test 1 - Valve
Can a bunnings irrigation valve switch air?
Answer - Yes
Test detail.  Connected to power supply and could hear the valve open and close.
Blew in and observed it would stop the air or pass it as intended.

Test 2 - Flow Sensor
We have a number of flow sensors at work.
I blew through each one to see what it would be like to breathe through one.

Most of them had too much resistance.
Second from the right with the orange tape was the only one that seemed OK to breathe through.

Need to find out where we got it from.

Ventilator - Parameters

https://e-vent.mit.edu/clinical/key-ventilation-specifications/

Tidal Volume VT
Positive End Expiry Pressure  PEEP
Respiratory Rate RR
Inspiratory Airflow V'

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6212352/

ARDS = Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
ICU = Intensive Care Unit
PBW = Predicted Body Weight
           PBWmen = 50.0+0.905xheight in cm - 152.4
           PBWwomen = 45.5 +0.905xheight in cm -152.4
VILI = Ventilator Induced Lung Injury
VT = Tidal Volume
         6mL/Kg PBW

PEEP is the alveolar pressure above the atmospheric pressure at end-expiration. PEEP applied through mechanical ventilation (i.e., extrinsic PEEP) allows delivery of positive pressure at the end of expiration to prevent unstable lung units from collapsing. Low levels of PEEP (3 to 5 cmH2O) are routinely used in patients on mechanical ventilation.

Covid19

Social isolation. I should be used to it. Lonlineness like a heartbeat dives you.

I wonder if after life stabilises, people will look back and say "I stared death in the face... And bought toilet paper"

Here in Oz, the land of rules and signs, we are normally so safe. Every activity so governed by the powers that be. Now we are disempowered by something we can't see.

Social isolation we are told is the go.

I'm sure that will help flatten the curve.

The church, at least the uniting church (& I think most) have descended into mediocrity. Cancelling all services. Fear.
Mind you they could have held services out doors. In the car park or a local park. Have the interpersonal distance to minimise virus spread and have social interaction. Jut just a sweeping cancellation.

Makes one think.
I'm not afraid of death but I am afraid of dying. Esp if it's not quite death.

It makes one think.
Perspective.
I'm like the Ute. Once maybe useful. Now old. Not so strong. Rusty. The new models will have different technologies.

Apart from living in the nanny state,

It feels like there's no forgiveness.
You know today we are so fixated on identity, data, history. Every slip up haunts you forever. For those who fall foul of the law, their record stays. For those who get in the media, it's there at the end of a google search. No longer can someone hop on a ship, change their name along the way and start again in a new place.
