Paris Opera House

FRIDAY 15 MAR 2024

This is our last day in Paris.  Henry and I had the hotel breakfast and then packed our bags and stored them at the hotel.  During breakfast, Henry bought tickets to look at the Opera house.  We had previously seen a cut away model at the Museum D'Orsay and were intrigued by the size and complexity of the design.

We walked down the Rue La Fayette.  As we neared the Opera house it began to rain lightly.  Neither of us had brought umbrellas. When we reached the entry, the wisdom of prepurchasing the tickets became obvious as we received immediate entry while those with no tickets were forced to queue in the rain.  It appeared they ignored the fact that our tickets were for 11am and yet it was closer to 10am when we entered.

Whereas the model amazed us by it's complexity, the real thing impressed through size and detail.  Awesome was a good description.  It's clearly a place that inspires.  Saw several girls who had dressed for the occasion and brought along boyfriends to photograph them in various poses with the opulence as a background.

Big and amazing detail
