The Grade 7 youth group called Priority One or P1 for short has firstly changed to a Grade 6 youth group.
I was really impressed with the leadership of P1. There has been a generational change from people like Megan and I to a younger group. The main leader is Meg. James. Olie is aparantly still aroud but only occasionally. There are a number of Junior leaders - highshool kids - 2 St Aidens, 1 Churchie, 1 Stuarhome possibly one from Indooroopilly and one from St Peters.
Overheard an interesting comment from one of the junior leaders. Their comment was "we all hated each other in grade 6 but by grade 7 we were all friends". A effect I guess of shifting Gr7 to highschool will be a different dynamic in primary schools with the new school leadership cohort being GR6. I guess the younger kids will all take their cues from a cohort with a different interpersonal dynamic.
The kids made self saucing steam puddings - I think I need to revisit the recipee as they seemed too thick and dry.
Damper twisties.
Toasted marsmellows
Jaffels - thank you James :)
Chris came wood collecting with me. We got some big logs from The Konings - Thank you Paul.
Then small sticks from alongside Canossa.
This photo taken around 6:10 was lighting the fire. I was worried we were starting too early but not so.
We put a couple of the aforementioned logs on as they are hard wood and make great coals and take time to burn.
The fire was very very hot!
Alietta is our new youth leader. She did devotions. She is young and the kids are a bit rowdy so these things are always hard. However I saw a much more mature side to her.
It was from the heart and quite well done.
A side activity was wood chopping.
I guess one day the risk assessment paranoia will put an end to it.
My safety aspects that seem to have worked so far is to have the kids watch from the side in case the kid lets go of the axe,
Behand a rope so far enough away to escape those glancing blows.

Father & Child night at Oxley State School
Oxley school held a Father and Child evening. Organised by the chaplain and supported by Oxley Uniting Church.
Oxley UC urganised a BBQ where we all received a free hamburger and soft drink.
We got into adhoc groups of 10 and participated in various fun challenge activities.
Here is Megan running one of the team activities. In this one, you had your team of 10 stand on a piece of cloth about 1200x1200 and try to turn the cloth over.
This was an amazing activity. You were supposed to hold the dowel by having the palms of your hands open and facing up with the dowel resting on them. The difficulty is that the dowel just seems to float up. (Helium sticks) :)
It's a weird feeling.

Father's day
Father's day started with a row. Pretty hard as the timing and balance were no good. But it was nice to be out with the guys. Followed up with a quick coffee.
Then off to collect Marcus from Michaels place. I dropped Marcus at our place and went to the last half of church.
Megan had an ensemble playing.
Peter did a sermon on Fathers. We each received a necklace of chocolate made a Alietta.
Chris arrived broken. He had ridden to rowing and fallen off on the way home.
He was not keen on Flinders Peak.
Plan D implemented. Picnic at Oxley common. In a way much better. Whole family including Lucy. Shorter.

Fathers Day - Flinders Peak?
Looking for recommendations for hills to walk up. (Potential fathers day activity)
A month or so ago, somone posted some mountain top pics but I forget who.
So if you can suggest hills and mountains around here that would be handy.

Catherine Elms Flinders peak

Heather-Ann Briker-Bell Flinders Peak. Close to home. Great views. Definitely up hill. Great for team building!

Frank Thomson The follow up question is how long will it take ?
Oh also will it kill me? Will 11yo handle it?

Heather-Ann Briker-Bell Yes it will kill you. Your 11 year old will be fitter than you! Haha! It is a steady climb through a meadow and into bush, running up a bush covered rocky ridge (quite pretty). It goes up in stages, plateauing into fields before the next ascent, some through bush, some in the open. there is a part where you climb up between two rocks (dirt and rock, plenty of footholds and the last ascent is fairly steep but opens out to a helicopter landing pad and finally at the summit a relay station and amazing views. Should be amazing with the current clear air before the bush fire season. Take plenty of water and a picnic and allow a leisurely 3-5 hours. Its nice just to hang around at the top for a bit - plenty of shade the helicopter landing pad makes a nice picnic spot though exposed to the full sun. Hope this helps Frank. Second alternative - lots of walks around Mt Cootha with the added bonus of an ice-cream stop at the kiosk. You can download maps of all the tracks - Simpsons Falls for example is a very leisurely 1.5 - 2 hour walk (fast walking an hour)and you can picnic in the park that leads to the walk. Have fun! But I do think Flinders Peak will be far more memorable!

Kyle Remphrey Kind of sad they didn't think to put a shade cloth over the helipad ... Hey Frank you could get a flight back instead.

Frank Thomson Perhaps as a community service, we could erect said shade cloth.

Dismantling & Fixing Neilson Kellerman Cox Box
The guys reported that the thing was not charging. They would shove something between the charging plug (left) and the microphone plug (right) to get it to charge but even then the battery would not reliably charge nor hold out for a 2hr rowing session.
Took some photos so I could remember how to reassemble it.
This is the battery. Turn the bit in the middle and extract the battery. The battery is keyed so you cant put it back in.
Its Lipo. There are 4 contacts on the bottom.
Ground (Common)
V+
Some kind of monitoring pin and
one other unknown.
The white VH4 connector in the main piece mates with the 4 pins on the base section.
There was quite a deal of crap visible as white flecks in this photo.
Blew it all out and then used silicone grease on the o-ring.
