SUNDAY 1 SEPTEMBER 2024
It's fathers day today.
Triggers me to ponder father related things.
4am Feeling a bit low.
This is weird because all three brisbane children are coming for a row. Even Dan who's not rowed. So it's really nice that they are all making this effort to get together to do something I enjoy.
I'm pondering....
Was I a "good" dad?
I was certainly a failure as a husband. So I ponder what of my mannerisms and behaviours were so bad. I'm trying hard to learn about myself. Somewhat neurodivergent it appears.
DAWN
The rest of Sunday/ Fathers Day was good. Great actually.
7:30 Facilitated Fathers Day Row at Centenary.
So it's Fathers day and at Centenary rowing club we celebrated by making life tough for dads.
This was a fun outing where for just a few minutes, the kids really did know more than the dads.
Big thank you to Lillian for coaching, Peter and Tanya for jumping in a boat with one family and especially to Matthew who jumped in the bow seat to help out a family of 3
Then for fun, to wrap up the day, the 3 of my 4 kids who live in Brisbane joined me for my father's day row.
AFTERNOON
helped Dave with an Aboriginal thing at West End. The gathering was part of a protest against adani Carmichael coal mine.
That was interesting for me.
The tension in my mind between the wish for autonomy by the indigenous people and my belief that it's pretty much mining that keeps us in this life style.
It does however remind me about how we are suffering the dutch disease. In fact the more I thought about it, the more it epitomises everything that is wrong with our relationship with the land / earth and the indigenous descendants.
As I understand it, one of the problems that white business has is locating the appropriate aboriginal representatives to obtain permission from in order to mine and so apparently the government has made it such that these days apparently they only have to locate one representative. Now anyone can see that does not pass the pub test.
Next, from my white aussie point of view, I disagree with the way we allow foreign business and people to own land and mine in Australia. At worst it should be a 50:50 partnership. Bringing in the Aboriginal populace, maybe they should be 50% Aussie part. At least that would give them some power and ownership. and hence control.
Chris, Dan and Jemma - Very special
Mags came out earlier when I was running the fathers day program at Centenary.
