Happy Birthday to Me (Frank)

Kate cooked up a wonderful birthday cake.  There was not enough room for all the necessary candles on the cake so we just piled them up in front.

Australia Day - Patriotism

The Horky's hosted a wonderful and patriotic Australia Day party.

Marcus.  Consummate cool.

Note also BBQ, Cricket.

We were so Patriotic.
Note on a clothes line!.

Kate faces up.

Chris too

Finally a picture of a smiling Chris.

Lucy got in on the act.  So helpful.

Just to clarify - She is not and I repeat not returning the ball to the arena of play.  Of our game anyway!

Australia Day - Breakfast

We started today with my Birthday breakfast trip to The Pancake manor Charlotte St in the city.

Today "We" being Frank, Megan, Marcus, Chris, Dan and Kate.  Jemma having arranged a sleepover with Ellie, Joe and Amy down at Tallebudgera.  This trip to the Pancake Manor is something of a tradition.  I enjoy their pancakes and they manage to make crispy but not burnt bacon and eggs.  There is something of a sameness about us with everyone except Dan going for the $10 special - 2 pancakes, bacon and 1 egg.  Whipped butter and sweet syrup complete the diabetic cardiac diet.  Dan managed a Pancake with ice cream followed up with another two and washed them down with a lemon aid.

My birthday is later in the week.

The down side of a Pancake Manor visit today was that the Australia Day weekend is noted for over indulgence in culinary delights.

However later in the week will be difficult because we will be juggling Dan's first day at BGS and Kate's first day at a yet to be determined school.  Megan working.  Chris rowing.

So today (Monday) it was.

Visit the Coast and a new Exchange Student

We have a new exchange student named Kate.  She is from France and is staying with us for about 6 weeks.

Today we have driven down the Gold Coast.  The weather is cloudy.  Not really what you would call a hot aussie beach visit.

The Koning's and  manthy's are camping and we dropped in to visit them.

Dan's Chrissy Pres - Illusionists 2.0

Tonight Dan and I went to see "The Illusionists 2.0".  This was Dan's Christmas present.

Wow what a show.  Absolutely amazing.

But then after the show the performers came out to the foyer.  They signed things and posed for photos.  We met Christopher Wayne.

Church- Sherwood visits Graceville

Sherwood church is being painted and we are not allowed in.  A certain ?synergy  with refugees you may say.  We looked around for somewhere to worship.  We were concerned that anywhere across the water may result in internment on bribe island and arriving by motor bike may prove detrimental to our chances of employment.

We chose Graceville UC as our destination.

Their video is rear projected from the choir area.  Janet, our pastor has commandeered the  lectern.

Janet took the children's time.  The other important part of the service was taken by their minister.
Inside.  See Chris in the black "Hong Kong" tee shirt. Jemma and Dan in the pew in front of Chris.

This picture gives a better idea of the high ceiling.

2014 Discoveries Camp

There are a whole stack of kids from Sherwood going to Discoveries this year.  Many of us met at our place.  The kids loaded themselves into the Vito and the Parents (sans Frank & Megan) into another car.  It reminded me of those movies where we have the VIPs and the chase car with security.

On the way to Discoveries.
Dan bottom left and Megan centre bottom

We arrived half an hour early and so we visited the dam wall and it stunk!.

There was discussion about the smell.  Some thought the smell was like rotten egg gas and others suggested sewage.

When we arrived, the kids were signed in and then a leader took them to find a dorm.  Note the difference between the girls and boys (see below).

Camping Military Jetty Caloundra

We (Megan, Frank, Chris, Dan, Jemma) but not Marcus spent a week tent camping at "Military Jetty Caravan Park".

The camp site and toilets were clean.  The fellow who ran the place, actually everyone there were great.  The place was hot.  Dam hot!.

On the saturday afternoon, we met the Mawhinney's and the Newman's at the park on the northen side of Pumice Stone Passage.

On Sunday afternoon I took the bus from Caloundra to Landsborough Station and then took the train to Brisbane.  Both legs of the trip were great.  Possibly the best public transport experience I have had in ages.

We took 4 bikes on a carrier built for 3.

We chained up the esky because at a different camp site a year or so ago we had our esky stolen.

Henry Helicopter Ride

Henry Capped off what I think was a very enjoyable and full week's holiday in QLD with a helicopter flying lesson.  He has referenced this on facebook and apparently so have V2 (the people who he did the lesson with)

Other activities of Henry's week included (in the order I think of them):
Present opening at Calston St
Christmas dinner.
A BBQ dinner at Megan's parents.
Bike riding with Chris and Frank - 45km one day and 53km another.
200km bike ride to the Gold Coast and back via Mt Tamborine.
Swim and Ice Cream at Caloundra.
A night in Warwick with the VS's.
And a row in a double scull.
