Jemma QUT Open Day

After rowing went to Thallon st.
Megan and I then went to collect Jemma at Brigidine. We then took the Tiida to QUT. The logic was a smaller car would be easier to park.

We went to two talks.

Lunch: I bought kebabs while Jemma and Megan went in search of information.

2pm
Took a shuttle bus from Gardens pt to Kelvin Grove.
Did a tour. The building that years ago I put some microwave links on has vanished.
Free popcorn.

Went to look at the c?
Missed the last tour but a friendly professor gave us a quick private tour.

Then looked at the YMCA gym.

Shuttle back to Gardens pt.

Drove back to Brigidine.  I retrieved my car.

The place gave me a good feeling.

Magnus Tinnie Ride

Today's coaching with main focus on introducing Magnus to riding in a tinnie.  Pre launch, did some desensitisation getting in and out of a tinnie on dry land.  Magnus then watched the kids launch.  All part of getting comfortable in a new setting.

Then into the tinnie. I lifted her in. Partly due to hesitancy on her part and partly because she's not a jumping dog. I had a tinnie with some matting so she could lie down and not be on the cold aluminium. And she did.  She was so a bit apprehensive. She crouched down with her nose close to the side.  I think trying to hide from reality.  A bit of shivering.  See the photo where she sports a very stylish poo bag.  At the end she was very happy to be patted by lots of kids and then to retreat and later sleep in the back of the car.

Back on The Bike

Decided to have a go at a river loop.

Not done one all year and it shows. Slow as.

Stopped for a rest on the corso at yeronga.
Another brief chat to Crafty at the rowing shed then coffee at SouthBank. Back on the bike and over the green bridge (A newspeak name if ever I heard one).
Back along the Corro drive bikeway.
Up Windamere st on foot with a log rest at the top.  Some 12yo kid just rode up, round the corner onto Swann rd and away.
Back on the bike and rode along Swann, down Clarence, across the bridge and up Oxley Rd.
Feeling tired and passed the Graceville Fish and Chips shop and noted that they did hamburgers.  Figured lets rest so did a U turn and went back and bought a burger.  A great burger. Basic with a lightly toasted bun, a nice light beef patty, tomato, lettuce, beetroot.
Finally back on the bike and home at 1pm.

So 7am - 1pm = 6hrs.  I was exhausted

They are building into the river.   I wonder what will happen in a flood.

Then strikes every stroke for 10 and then full crew then strikes again.  Then repeat for hands away.
Then intervals. Started with 10 on 10 off and by the end 20 on 20 off.

I enjoyed the row.  The boat sat up reasonably well.

Facebook Video Downloader

 Nope

Does not work.  Lots of advertising

I think the issue is that it is unable to get the video if it's in a group.

Rowing

Nice row in an 8 this morning.  Anus coxing and Neil stroke.  I was 7.

People seemed pretty focused and the boat sat up pretty well.

I buggered my right arm or shoulder skiing which makes it hard to lift up and across my body which made it hard to throw the boat above my head but pulling on the oar was fine.

It was quite chilly on the water.  On the way up we warmed up as an 8.  Did strikes at the finish for a bit.

On the way back 4 min at 18 50% effort followed by 1 min at 22 100% effort.  Repeat for one continuous row.

It was dark all the way up. Sun rise was on the way back.

Canberra to Sydney

Mid morning James and Henry went for a run.  I'm hesitant to put such stress on my knees so went for a walk around Hackett.

Noon we left in two cars for James and Sally's. Picked up pies and tarts at the Sutton bakery. Proceeded to Gungallan.

Lunch outside on their courtyard. Tour of the yard and house.

Then James, Dan and myself drove to Sydney with James dropping us at Sydney airport.

Saturday at Henry's

The day started with the mediocrity of wordle and me concerned that the high of the preceding week may be replaced by the  depression of life that afflicts me.

Heard James and Henry making noises about park run.  Concerned that running on my sore knees might not be a good thing but that getting into the habit of some exercise would be,  decided to come and watch.  Walked 10 minutes in with the tail walker (Roger) and then figured the brothers would be reaching the turn around, I cut across to the return track.  Photo'd them as they passed.  Noting that they were beaten by a fellow pushing a pram with a kid running beside.

Home for an oversized breakfast- bacon Eggs Mushrooms Tomatoes.

Marcus and Soph arrived for Marcus's birthday lunch.  We were full and had no food so Marcus had to retrieve supplies from his car.  How's that for hospitality (not).

Late afternoon and Henry again started mooting suggestions of a walk.  8k's it turned out. Reminisced about playing cowboys and Indians and family walks as kids in this bush.

We had built a home made party line telephone system between my bedroom and my brothers bed room. Across to next door then up the back fences up about 10 houses to Karl's place.  At night we'd lie in bed and talk much to our parents annoyance. Occasionally having to quietly remove the fly screen and slip out through the bedroom window to fix a faulty connection and restore service.  The ruminants of the wire still visible 47 years later on the neighbours carport.

Upon return, we bought Steak, corn, Mushrooms etc and cooked dinner washed down with some great red wine.
