Android Keyboards with a enter button

Seems pretty obvious dont it that when you type a text message you might like to insert a new line by pressing the enter button.

With the demise of Crazy Johns phone network, we needed to do something for Chris.  I happened to have bought an Aldi prepaid to move Megan onto.  So I used that for Chris.  Turned out his handset was locked to Vodafone.  So I swapped handsets.  But blow me over when I tried to send a text message there was no enter button.  In its place was an emoticon :-)

A quick check of google and it seems that this is a common issue.  Oversight or misunderstanding by those at google.  No enter button.  Bizarre.
Tried various keyboards from the google play store:-

Touchpal-X   Enter Swipe
A.I.type Keyboard Free   Yes No
SlideIT Demo Keyboard Enter but so so sloooow No
SwiftKey Trial Default is emoticon
Long hold to get Enter
No
Swipe :-) Swipe
Perfect Keyboard free  Yes BUT enter sends the text
rather than putting in an end of line
No
LG Keyboard  Yes BUT its not QWERTY No
Gingerbread keyboards :-) No
Android Keyboard :-) Swipe
Swipe + Dragon Trial   No Swipe

Elimbah holiday

We are visiting Megan's parents at Elimbah.  I am writing this on Monday morning (30-9-2013).  One of my holiday activities is to get up early and play on my computer.  This holiday, may main computer duty is to edit the video of the school play.

We arrived Friday mid afternoon.

Megan's brother David and his family are here and we will be having a BBQ dinner before they head home.  Our friends the Konings will be joining us on Saturday and camping in the back yard.

Ian and Jemma are putting up Jemma's tent.  Well Ian and Faye's anyway.  Tomorrow we believe she will be sharing it with Ellie and Sam.

Chris is playing with his puppy - Lucy.

Dan and Xavier are shooting Nerf guns at each other and catching the foam bullets.

VODAFONE INTERNET
Since our last visit, Vodafone have done something and I now get a good internet connection on my phone.

Windows Keyboard and Mouse Record and Playback

I have a need to record a set of actions on my PC and then repeat them may times over.
Too easy you think.  Well think again.  I would not say any of these are acceptable programs.
To me to be acceptable they need to
  •  record and replay
  • the files should be editable.
  • The start and stop process should be easy.  I would say a small always on top widget and user programmable hot keys.

Mouse Recorder Pro 2 2.0.7.4

PFMR
http://www.benetonsoftware.com/PF_Macro_Recorder.php
This works.  Uber simple.
But the macro has to activated by clicking the mouse.  The shortcut key cntrol-P or something kicks off some other windows function.
Also not possible to edit.
Can increase the replay speed to 1000x

PULOVER'S MACRO CREATOR
http://www.macrocreator.com/
Claimed to record macros for use with Autohotkey but also a stand alone program that will record keyboard and mouse and replay them.
It works
But when I recorded clicking in three input boxes and typing a few numbers I ended up with a thousand lines of macro.  It seemed each mouse movement entered a gazillion lines into the recording.
Can edit

AUTOHOTKEY
http://www.autohotkey.com
This is the rolls royce, name brand, top of the line program that gets lots of hits on google.
Just can't quite work out how to get it to actually record keys.

DO IT AGAIN
http://www.spacetornado.com/DoItAgain/
Installed, ran, recorded, saved - ah not so quick.  Win8 must prevent writing to the program files area and the program only writes to a special directory.  Uninstalled and reinstalled to c:\doitagain\.  Tried again.  This time recorded and saved but I could not get it to playback without error.  Gave up.  Uninstalled.

FREELABS MACRO RECORDER
http://freelabs.info/MacroRecorder.aspx
Downloaded.  Ran to install -> Error 2868.  Changed something to do with being compatable with previous versions of Windows.  Tried to install again and it worked.  Tried to record a macro.  Then play it back.  Nothing seemed to happen when I played it back.  Maybe it does not record mouse movements?
MICROSOFT
This page
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/help/windows-8/how-to/mouse/creating-macros
Seems to imply that Microsoft have a offering.  I just don't have a microsoft mouse on me.

Mouse Recorder
http://mouserecorder.sourceforge.net/
Could not find windows installer.  last activity 2010. gave up
---------------
come back to this.  Nothing to do with recording.  http://thinphp.com/

Blue Bike Stolen

We have had a rash of thievery at our house this year.
Earlier this year (just before Easter) the motor bike was stolen.
Then a few weeks later Chris's (X Marcus's) bike was pinched.
And last night my blue bike was pinched.

So annoying & frustrating.  Our place is pretty insecure.  So I guess my next activity is going to have to be security.

Consumer Camcorder Audio Interface

Requirements

Mic level and line level inputs
audio level indication
Audio Splitter
Miscellaneous adapter cables
Headphones as a final confidence check

Audio Mixer Options

There are nice dedicated camera audio interfaces from Juicedlink and Beachtek but at $500 each compared to ~$150 for a small mixer I think the mixer would be a better option.

$US469

Beachtek
Beachtek have a range of mic adaptors for camcorders. The lower end cheaper ones do not have level meters.  They used to do a unit called the DXA-4C that I assume was pretty low cost.

=======================================

Microphone Splitters

Questioning of industry types indicates that they often run the radio mics into the desk at mic level.  So to tap off at the radio mic interface, a splitter would be needed.  I suspect that at the more pro events that the PA supplier would provide that split but transformer isolated splitters are pretty cheap and so having one in the kit would be handy.  (The just look like a DI box.)

EWI MST-103 from Ebay or Cannon Onlie Australia   $60

ARX but I dont know price or where to buy

Miscellaneous Cables

I suspect some sound operators will not be keen on touching the wiring between the radio mic receiver and the sound desk.  I suspect they will prefer to provide a line out from the desk.  So we will need a couple of adapters to meet those requirements.
Probably
RCA->XLR(M)
Jack -> XLR(M)
Then run a mic cable to our mixer that we would locate at our camcorder.

Mounting the shotgun Mic

The Camcorders do not have a shoe.
This web site has innumerable brackets.  Some of which should go between the tripod and the camera.  There are presumably other similar web sites and shops or there is always bunnings and DIY.

Fallback, we can use a mic stand.

26-09-2013 Testing Testing
It seems not so easy to record audio via the 3.5mm mic input connector.  It seems disproportionately noisy.  Part but not all of the problem is that the camera has AGC (Automatic Gain Control) and when the audio goes quiet say when the speaker pauses the camcorder increases the gain and hence the noise goes up.
We have two problmes
  1. The thing is simply too noisy anyway
  2. The AGC makes it even more noisy in the quiet times.
Now I wonder if those guys who sell these dedicated boxes (juicedlink and Beachtek) do some trickery to defeat the AGC.  For example shove in a tone above or below the audible range.

This article from juicedlink infers that Beachtek use a 20kHz tone.  Ah so smart.  I wonder what Juicedlink do?  Ah here they tell us they inject broadband noise onto one channel which becomes unusable and sets the AGC level of the other channel.  I think I prefer the Beachtek version.  I wonder if Beachtek have patented it.
So I think the next thing to do is to see if I can borrow a Beachtek interface.  If it is still noisy then there is not much point in continuing down this path.  Beachtek show two distributors in Australia.

Tuesday 1-10-2013 Lab Test
Did some tests with a 20kHz tone and two microphone sources.
The two microphone sources were:  1) The radio lapel and 2) the mini shotgun.
Used the PC to generate a 20kHz tone.
Tried various combinations of feeding the tone in one channel and feeding a mic on the other channel or the same channel.  When fed on the same channel, the 20kHz was combined with the mic at line level using a RCA Y lead.  Yea I know dodgy.

Firstly the 20kHz tone sure quietens down the camcorder.

There is something too smart with the camcorder.  At times it will just switch back to the internal microphones even though the 3.5mm plug is plugged in and has not been touched.

There are times when about once a second it momentarilly glitches.  I think it is switching back and forth between the 3.5mm input.

It seems that having the white (Left I guess) lead connected to the RCA Y adapter and putting in the 20kHz tone and the radio lapel mic receiver and the Red (Right I guess) connected to the mixer & mini shotgun seems to be the best option.  Mind you the mini shotgun and mixer are themselves a bit noisy.  Eithe way it is heaps better than without the 20kHz tone and there may be some improvement if I track down the source of the noise from the mini shotgun and mixer.

menagerie

The list of animals at our house includes
1 x Cat - Oreo
1 x Turtle - Donatello (named after a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle)
1 x Puppy - Lucy
8 x Chickens
a gazillion fish.
Various small children.

In the photo above Oreo is keeping a watchful eye over Anook and the chooks.  A good name for a band you think.  On the tramp we have Jemma, Dan and Bree-ack.  I think I will run a book on the number of eggs that get produced.  My bet is zero.  My suspicion is that Oreo fancies the chooks as a tasty morsel. I wonder how many snakes are counting their chickens. Megan spent the day converting the play house into a chook house.   If they do survive then the dog can practice herding them.

The puppy is a pooing machine.  I have taken to closing the door to the computer room.

I think I will buy a caravan and move in.
