Mercedes Vito Key Fob Fix

For ages the "lock" function has not worked.
Pulled it apart and guess what just fell out.
Soldered it back on.
All working.

The switch in question after soldering back on.  It's the one between the gold coil and the chip with the blue paint on it.

I was curious what it looks like inside.  The red bits are the bits that push down onto the buttons.

This is the switch.  Just fell out.  Typical Merc quality.
All the bits right after dismantling.

Install Office 365 subsription on a work PC

Given Sundays frustration getting the Office 365 subsription going on Megan's Surface, I am a bit aprehensive about todays work task of getting two subsriptions going on work PC's

1.  Access "Add or remove programs"
Uninstall anything that looks like office or office 365

2. Log into portal.office.com

3. Click on the "Install Office 2016"
downloads an installer.  Run it.  The progress bar (for what it's worth) opens in a window behind the others.  There is also a pop up available in the task bar that actually gives a %

Megan Surface Pro 3

1. INSTALL FREEWARE
Goto ninite.com.  Choose
7zip, Audacity, Chrome, CutePDF, Firefox, Gimp.

2. Backup google contacts
This is because I've had trouble with the firefox contact sync loosing contacts.

Go to Google Contacts.   Click More and then Export.
Then we have to accept to use the old version.  Slack dogs google.  The company who is making driver-less cars can't move basic features into new versions.

3. OUTLOOK GMAIL
a.  Activate IMAP within Gmail - Done sometime in the past.
b. added the gmail user name and password and that all worked.
BUT Cant compose new email in outlook......
Ahh --->  I need to purchase a licensed copy.  Hmm
Is it in the EQ Office 365 subscription? --> Yes
It looks like the 365 is logged in but this does not it appear mean activated.

4. ACTIVATE OFFICE
1.       Goto your webmail at http://owa.eq.edu.au
2.       Click on Office365 in the top Left
3.       Click on Install Office 2016 (in the top right)

Dismal fail.
Downloaded and ran "Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365"
It says "We found a Problem
We failed to installed Offoce 2016 on your machone
So tell me something I don't know or tell me how to fix it.

Phoned Microsoft and got onto  a human "Anket" who used hamachi to remotely access the computer and fix it.  I think in the end the problem was that I should have uninstalled the preinstalled office 365.

More on getting Outlook synced with google
Now one option would be to give up on google but we have android phones.
Another option seems to be "emclient"

5 EMAIL
Trying emclient

Aldi NiMH battery fail

Some of our rowing boat lights have died.

I previously bought new rechargeable NiMH batteries from Aldi and installed them.

The lights are sealed with silastic against water ingress.

Upon opening, it was obvious that a battery had probably leaked.  The other possible option was that some silastic release acetic acid.

The circuit boards are corroded and beyond repair.

Visually a couple of the batteries have a brown mark near the positive terminal.  It looks to me like the acid leaked out there.

The question is why?
Options I can think of are:
1 Dodgy batteries.
2 Over charging.

GR10-4 Season End Speech

Rowing analogy to life
- Team work
- Resilience

100% attendance - Testament to your resiliance and willingness to be in the team.
Yes we've had sickness and sore backs but everyone always here.  (Vomit at finish)

Team work - Rowing need to be 100% in sync.  We all know that.

Airline ticketing subterfuge

Been booking tickets for the Palm Island trip and it seems the airlines are doing their best to confuse me.

WebJet

First we type in some dates and we get a nice summary

Note $138 tickets.
I selected those
And I'd selected $154 tickets for the return journey

After selecting flights I got this

Something did not add up

FRI$138x4=$552
THUR$154x4=$616
Total=$1168
And $1168 is not $1202.90

Where did that come from I wondered.
See that little line of text that says "Show Details".
This expands to this:

And we see two fees added.  Oh all right.  Lets make the booking.

A bit cheeky in my view.  Given that hidden away is $12.95 booking price guarantee and $21.95 Web jet service fee.

Jetstar

Now we might consider going direct to the Jetstar web site.
I think it was clear that the seat price did not include luggage but it was not clear what the luggage price was.

Not

So in summary $1296 for jetstar directly and $1202 for web jet.
