Carols on the Holy Lawn

This is why we send our kid to catholic school. Free beer! - Singing Christmas carols. It's a fun evening and a great showcase. We've had Jemma singing & playing plus dance groups with some humorous interpretations of Christmas songs. A really enjoyable evening.

From the screen shots below, it looks to me like I have 5 subsriptions.  It's office 365 BUSINESS and it says 5 computers so I assume I can install it.

Yesterday I spoke to someone at Microsoft and I bought a second subscription.  I think but above still shows only one subscription.

Brigo Rowing

Jemma went off in a single.
Two girls wanted to do a pair. It was rigged too high and they gave up.

Put this on FB
Lucy decided today to provide rowing consultating services.

Which reminds me if your high school age  child would like to try rowing, let me know.  We row at Centenary club. We can get them out on a boat and see if it is their thing.

Saturday

The day started at 5:30 dropping Jemma at Centenary.  Lucy helped by distracting the girls.

Then on to west end where we discovered the tree loppers had dropped a humungus log on the roof of the boat shed and had brought in a crane to help with the lifting.

Finally on the water with the grade 8 3rd quad. It was hot as.  We started with a technique focus and then got the 4 boys rowing together.  We stepped through 2 minute rate steps of 18 20 22 20 18 with the focus on timing.

It was hot. Really hot. To regain focus, I offered the boys a swim.  One at a time so we still had 3 engines to keep the boat in position.

With the boys refreshed, we did a U turn and another rate step piece but this second time we emphasised maximising boat speed as well as controlling rating.

Then we ran into the 4ths. Well not literally. They challenged us to a set of short races.  In these races we limit the rating and if one boat gets in front they reduce rating while trying to stay in front.

Then on to collect Jemma who by this time was playing tennis at Milton. Thank you to older brother Dan who having graduated gr12 yesterday was still willing to get himself out of bed and collect Jemma from her rowing and take her to Milton.

Now just relaxing for a few minutes.  :)

Dan Grade 12 Graduation

Congratulations Dan. Very proud.

9:00 Dropped Dan and I went and parked.  Bought a coffee from Mramerica (I think it was called) and opened up my laptop and touched a few emails.
10:00 the doors opened and we went in.
Megan arrived and joined me.
The kids marched in.  A bit awkward as the music was "Land of Hope and Glory" which given the cultural diversit seemed a bit colonial.
They had a pirate theme and the head mistress did her speech within that theme.

They have 6 houses with what looked like about 50 kids per house.  They would line up on the stage and they would read out their awards and have their picture on the screen.  It moved along pretty smoothly.

BGS coaching

Another day in paradise.

First time in doubles for my grade 8 lads.  For the non rowers in the audience,  these boys have been learning to row in quads (4 rowers). The doubles are less stable so the boys have to be more conscious of balance and timing.  It's also easier for them to see the effect of making a change because it's only you or the other guy.

In the background you can see your tax dollars driving past.   :)

Dan Formal

Dan graduates grade 12 this year.  Tonight was his grade 12 formal held at the Greek Club Edmonstone St West End.

I actually was in Town visiting a customer on Monday afternoon.  I received a message from Chris advising he was having trouble paying the rego on the Audi.  Since I was close I drove to Archibald St and sat with him while we phoned the Dept Of Transport.  Turns out we had not ticked all the boxes when we transferred ownership.  Ah well...

Then it was a short drive to the Greek Club.  Met Don and Val and Kinan. Dan and Teale and others had been at Kangaroo Pt and it took a while for them to arrive.  Teale was in some fancy I think Hired car that made a lot of noise.  Dan was too embarrassed to park the Tiida out the front and so he parked nearby and walked.

Sunday 11-11 lunch with Marcus

After the Armistice day service I dropped Jemma home and drove to the uni to meet Marcus for coffee.  By the time I got there (12:30ish) it was lunch time.  Marcus showed me the law library where he had been studying.  They have a kitchenette with a fridge and a couple of microwaves.  He heated his lunch and then we went down to the cafe that is near the old undergrad library and I bought a couple of coffees and a sandwich.

Nice to chat and interesting to discover that he hand writes his notes because he has found that is the best way for him to shove information into his brain and have it retain it.

11-11-2018 Remembrance Day

After Brigidine Rowing, Jemma changed into her guide uniform and we high tailed it from Centenary to Graceville.  Arrived near Graceville train station around 9:30.

As we gathered Lucy met up with a couple of young kids from Oxley that knew her and they had a great time holding her lead.

We marshaled in Appel St, Marched down Verney Rd East.  Left onto Oxley Rd and then left again into the driveway at the park.  I was very impressed that "they" managed to close and march on Oxley Rd.  Earlier this year and last year the Anzac day marches did not go on Oxley rd - In my view an indication that the terrorists had won.

As we marched down the driveway there was quite a nice scene of the marches in the foreground and people playing cricket in white on an oval surrounded by a low white picket fence.  To me it's the sacrifice made by our ancestors and to this day by our soldiers that gives us the safe and free society we live in today.

At the service Lucy was very well behaved.

We had a minutes silence at 11:11:11....

Jemma laid a wreath on behalf of the guides.

And guess what our local pollie - Jess Pugh lead the national anthem acapella and a very good and respectful rendition too.

2018 Brigidine Spiritus Awards Night

Brigidine has two awards nights.  A big wing ding affair at ERPAC (Lauries) that is the main academic and core sports awards night.  Basically the Brigidine version of speech night.  They also have a second smaller night that focuses on sport and cultural activities.
