Samsung A5 issues

Phone will not show up on my PC.

Lunch time made phone call.  Silence from other end until I put it on hands free.  Very reproducible.  Hands free I can hear the other person. Normal is complete silence.

4pm ish took to Harvey norman oxley.
They advised it will have to go to samsung for evaluation and that can take up to 3 weeks and they don't lend a phone during that time.

While there, they connected to an XP machine and it worked.
Then connected my lap top and again the phone showed up as a disk as wanted.


FRIDAY 26 OCT 2018

8.27am no audio to play YouTube  (yes- checked media volume up)

8:29 tried to play video that I had recorded to memory - still no sound.
Adjusting volume buttons makes a beeping for each push of the button.  Up or down.

8:33 reboot phone.   No change.  Still no replay audio.

8:55 still no audio but I note I'm now getting key clicks which I wasn't getting earlier.

9:13 connected to PC. Successful.
Copied photos to PC.

Tried again to play media file. Initially no audio but tried volume up button and interestingly the volume was right down at zero.

10:00 Reset phone to factory default
Applied password for Syndetic wireless LAN.
Agrees to all the terms and conditions.
Checking for updates......
Sign into Google OK
Don't restore backup.
Did not setup fingerprinnt or PIN.
Backup to Google Drive - ON
Send system data etc - all ON
"Sign into your Samsung accoun" -> Done
Agreed to Terms, privacy, customisation.
Did not agree to share contact information.
Did not restore anything from samsung account as it was last updated in 2017 and has been full eversince.

Play store indicated it wanted to update apps.  I chose "Update All"
