Strobe Light

We need a 12V strobe light.  We have some 240V strobe lights but when one tries to run them off an inverter they give a very feable flash.

I thought I would take a sticky beak inside to see if there was a way we could modify one to run off the inverter or to stimulate ideas on desiging a 12V driver circuit from scratch.

It seems the tube is connected across the mains (via a series diode and inductor) and then there is this extra wire wrapped around the tube that is involved with firing it somehow.

As an aside, there is not even a transformer to isolate the low voltage control circuit.  That in it's self would not really be a problem except that there are two 6.5mm sockets for connection of external triggers.  Hmm I wonder where the ground reference is especially if avtive and neutral are reversed.

I wonder if we were to put a capacitor across the tube?
