Been pondering the appropriation of the #illridewithyou hash tag by all and sundry.
On the one hand it initially seemed to me to be just a trendy tacky thing.
Upon reflection,
As I understand it, time and again, when someone is being attacked, bystanders will watch and not intervene. The parable of the good Samaritan replayed again and again.
When someone takes decision to associate themselves with #illridewithyou, hopefully they will be more alert and be willing to intervene when an injustice is being perpetrated.
There is a second line of thought that goes like this.
Whereas the above intervention is a short term call to action in an emergency,
The second action is the ill stick with you through the long haul. Maybe the person is struggling in some way. Perhaps recovering either mentally or physically from illness. Perhaps homeless or jobless. Do we need the #illstickwithyou hash tag?
