Installing Tascam US-122 on Windows 10

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/1649-73-install-tascam-window

1.  Note:No drivers for win 8 or 10
2 Driver down load is http://tascam.com/product/us-122/downloads/
3 Down load US122_Win_3.40f.zip
4 unzip it
5 Disconnect the US-122 from the computer.
6 Right click, select properties, click the compatibility mode box, choose Windows Vista (service pack 2).
7 Double click it.  Click the usual acceptances.  Note the dialog with "finish" came up directly under one of the earlier ones.  The only way I could find to click the finish button was to use Alt-Tab.
8 Plug in the US-122
9 Plug in a mic
10 Run Audacity & try out.

This is what the device driver shows when the US-122 is plugged in without the driver program being run.

Right click, select properties, click the compatibility mode box, choose Windows Vista (service pack 2)

After driver has been installed it shows up under Audio inputs and outputs.

  1. Thank you, you saved my life! Used the device on my stand-alone pc for a while, but I updated from 7 to 10 so I never had to do the installation but I knew it would have to work. Was nearly giving up when I found your blog post. Thanks!

  2. Thanks so much. Was going to go buy a new interface today but thought I'd have one last scour of the internets to see if anyone had got this old thing working under windows ten.

You just saved me £150 :)

  3. I got it all hooked up and installed and when I monitor the tascam with headphones it sounds great but what records on the actual computer is super static-y. Any ideas what that's about?

  4. Thanks for this!

I read in a few places that this didn't work any more after a 2019 Windows update, but I figured I had nothing to lose, so gave it a go.

So far so good, in that I'm getting sound into the laptop and it records onto Audacity. (I just plugged a radio into it so there was a signal, and I haven't tried an instrument, or MIDI, and haven't fired up Reaper.)

Anyway - I thought it was worth letting others know that is *seems* to still be a go-er and we may not have to throw our US-122 just yet!

    1. I found it workable in Audacity.

Using Reaper for some more complex tasks, there were a couple of things that seemed to either freeze Reaper or give me a blue screen every time. I can't remember what they were now, but changing input/output sources was one of them.

I played with it for a few days to convince myself that I would use an interface, and as I had some cash, treated myself to a new Steinberg one instead.

I now have a spare US122 if anyone in North London wants to make me an offer. I might try and hook it up to the iPad as I think I read somewhere that still works OK...

Thanks again to everyone for their help - you got me started again!

  5. Hey, I did your install and I've actually got my TASCAM US-122 recognized as connected to a USB port. However, I'm getting skips on playback of a recorded track in Reaper. Also when I try and assign the playback device (US-122) in Reaper to WDM, there is no sound at all. Best results are by using Direct Sound, but there come the skips...
I've also written the good peeps at Reaper about it, but just thought I'd pop in here too. I got the US-122 working in my Windows 10 laptop, but with issues as stated.
I'm not a power user by any means, but have "a little (read: dangerous)" knowledge of getting around.
    Thanks for your time!

    1. I also have a Windows XP disc and key, which I can resort to...

  6. Frank,

Thanks so much. Dug mine out from 15-20 years ago because I was thinking about giving it to a kid who's learning to sing and play guitar. Wanted to make sure it worked, and with your help it did!

Thanks for bothering to share this.

  7. Just sharing this in case anyone else encounters the crackling/popping problem. Make sure your sample rate is set to 44100 in your recording program (I'm using Waveform and set it through the Audio Settings). Also make sure the latency in the recording program matches what is set in the Tascam US-122 Control Panel (to access this open up the Windows Control Panel and search for Tascam). After a bit of experimentation I set mine to 512 in both and audio seemed to record fine in Waveform and the problem was gone. I do have a beefy PC so if you still encounter cracking/popping try upping the latency in both places.

  8. I was just able to get my trusty US-122 up and running in Windows 11 by following this guide in conjunction with this guide https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/a-driver-can-t-load-on-this-device-8eea34e5-ff4b-16ec-870d-61a4a43b3dd5

    1. Thanks for that!!! I was wondering if this workaround would apply to Windows 11
