GOOD FRIDAY 7 APRIL 2023
3:30 rise and shine.
Packed the esky from the fridge.
Off to rowing.
In a four - The Omrah.
Crafty
Rohan
Frank
Dave C.
The row started OK with just a light row to get into it.
Stopped a Gyatt Pk to tighten my foot stretcher. Then the zero to one hundred drill.
Then we rowed around the corner to the Sommerville reach. Then we did a pyramid 2 min at each of 20 22 24 22 20. As we neared the end, Rohan's seat emitted that rattly noise flagging a dead wheel. We did a u turn and headed over to Sommerville. A big crowd of women in bunny ears preparing to go rowing. Somehow bunny ears look cute on women of any age. Can't say The same when it comes to blokes. In fact the thought is quite weird. Rohan and Crafty went on search of a wheel and returned triumphant. The ladies apparently parting with their last wheel.
We pushed off and did two more pyramids starting at 22 and 24 respectively. The rowing was a bit ordinary. At 26 and above it felt (to me anyway) quite rushed. The other interesting thing is perception of balance. The stroke siders complained about it being down on stroke side while the bow siders knew it was down on bow side.
After we washed and put away the boat I had a shower while the others went in search of a coffee shop.
Then A really nice thing happened, I was waiting to cross the bike track when a voice from the peloton called out "Hi Frank". It was Mel B. It was so nice to be acknowledged.
I received a text advising:
"Cheeky bean in Woolworth's centre". Coffee and a danish prepared and served by a team of girls resplendent in bunny ears.
After coffee, I drove round to river city women's to give them a couple of wheels.
Such a contrast to a men's rowing club. Whereas we'd managed 4 rowers, they had a ton. All resplendent in bunny ears. A beautiful breakfast laid out. Then games - team relay egg and spoon race.
Then onto Toowoomba via Glenrich st (I'd forgotten the butter).
Coffee with Richard H. Great to chat with him and a friend of his. It was very foggy in Toowoomba.
I swung by Boyce ct and Queens Park. Memories of happier times. Well... except for the last Easterfest where Megan had excluded me from the theming process and so I didn't stay.
Onto Warwick. Stopped and called Lewis but he was on his way to Killarney with dogs and wife.
Succumbed to a big mac.
Arrived at the Stanthorpe house and Marpa was in his element burning off. No one else here so I got the keys from Rosemary. Pulie, Cinney and 2 littlies were there too.
Let myself in. Started a fire in the lounge room. Paul, Cybele, Ellie and Sam arrived.
It's raining. Medium drizzle to quite hard rain.
The power had gone out. As well as no light or electric kettle, This means the no pump for water. I filled a saucepan from the tank over flow and boiled water on the gas stove and made coffee.
Another downside of no power is no light to read by.
Pondering how our society has moved. Good Friday a public holiday to remember what? Oh yes Jesus, son of God killed on the cross as a symbol of sacrifice on behalf of mankind. Yet today bunny ears and chocolate egg and spoon races.
