Euro ski 24

22-23 February

Whiteout day. Frank and I still headed out. Some new light snow on the ground made for a very beautiful winter look. We actually covered some 58kms, so more than the sellaronda day. We largely stayed within our home resort area but went to a couple of villages we have not been to. Despite the conditions and difficulty with visibility high up skiing, was still enjoyable.

Snow fell throughout the night and continued all day (23rd); very heavy at times but not the windy wet snow of home. Numbers of us prepared to go out fell away. Frank Thomson and I were the first out with Amy Thomson and Mike and Rob Thomson after. We were greeted with lovely powder runs. New, fresh and fun to turn. You can’t ski particularly fast in powder; it’s more the sensation of slicing through which gives a buzz. Our first few runs were pretty much to ourselves with numbers growing through the morning.

We stopped late morning for a welcome hot chocolate. With snow falling heavily we were glad to be indoors. We headed to the other side of our resort area, where after a few runs, we meet with Amy and Mike for lunch. Post lunch we warmed up on a close by run before heading down one of the big mountains overlooking Corvara. Conditions under ski were actually better than previous times we’ve ski this area. A few more runs before a final hot chocolate and making our way home. Drinks to end a wonderful week.
