11/5 Sun Sinop 1

Our first full day in Sinop.

Nearby is Turkey's most northerly point. Across the water is Ukrain.

Around 7:30 went for a brief walk in search of a real coffee.  Most places just give you Nescafe.  One place open and looked hopefull but the machine needed half an hour to warm up. Back to the hotel for the included breakfast and presumably Nescafe.

HOTEL BREAKFAST
Breakfast is in the hotels in house restaurant on the roof.  6 flights of stairs. Good exercise. The usual array of cucumber, tomato, cheeses, boiled eggs and Nescafe. An impatient seagull kept making itself known by pecking at the window.

After Breakfast, cleaned teeth.
Fletch called Phoebe for mothers day.
I called Tim H, then joined a video call with Jemma, Megan, Dan and Megan's parents.

COFFEE SHOP
Down stairs and the nearby coffee shop was now open. Coffee and a brownie. Came with a branded lighter. Phoebe had a smoke.

BOATS
Walked along the road to a shop that sold small model boats.  Apparently a feature of the town begun as therapy by prisoners but now a commercial craft.

CASTLE
Next door to the castle.  Climbed stone stairs. Each step larger than modern steps.  I guess medieval soldiers fitter than modern tourists. An expansive view.  Rowers on the black sea. A couple of local girls photographing each other while mum checked her phone. A poorly patronised coffee shop. Toilets.

Down stairs and into town.

Phoebe bought some sweet pastry and I watched a fellow make over cream. He had a big wooden paddle and a stirring machine. He gave me a cone with a sample.  It was very yummy so I bought a come a cone with a big serving. It tasted great.  Sweet but not nearly as sweet at Australian ice cream. Beautiful.

Walked up the street window shopping.

OTTOMAN MANSION
Eventually made it to the Ottoman mansion Museum. Official name:
Arslan Torun Mansion and Ethnography Museum
Etnografya Müzesi

Free.
Inside amazing. Unexpected. Colourful. Intricate. Very well presented.

LUNCH
Phoebe bought one of those pastery scrolls with mince inside. We walked to the sea side and sat on a step and ate it.

SNOOZE
4pm Back to the hotel for a siesta and write blog.

Internal colours were bright and amazing and so different to the bland way we paint houses today.

PARTY NIGHT

Went in search of a glass of red.

Found an Irish pub.  Soccer on two TV screens.  Music playing.

And it was a very strong red
There were several dogs inside
On our way home we heard music.  Entered a small cafe with two guys playing what I assume are local pop or patriotic songs as a table of girls near us were singing along.
Both instruments were electric.  I could not work out how the guitar worked as there was no obvious pickup.  The fellow described it as a "Silent" instrument.

Everyone smoked.  Except your truly.
