Cappadocia is famous for hot air balloons. It's as much a spectacle as it is an experience.
This morning we got up early and checked out. Started following a mini bus and later a caravan of land rovers towing trailers with balloons on them. Pitch black. Eventually saw a light in the distance. Parked and bought a coffee. Several dozen landrovers towing balloons roared past. A few minutes later some came racing back. Mini buses full of balloon passengers raced in all directions. We assume they were being indecisive about where to launch.
Suddenly balloons began to sprout in all directions.
As the sun rose we observed thousands of people viewing the balloons. Stall holders selling stuff. A line of 60's American convertibles available for girls to drape themselves over. Women in traditional dress being photographed against the colourful dawn backdrop.
