Tuesday - Edam

EDAM
Visited big old church. Met old man as we walked around the grave yard.  He told us the story of selecting the site. They let a bull roam the town and where it sat down was the highest ground.

Noted houses with quite dodgy leaning front facads.

Old church tower. Leaning Tower of Edam.

Tiny alleys of course.
Narrow foot bridge.
Brick covered canal (cat)
Locke they need slopey water. I wonder if it's bad form to open both gates and drain the town.

Hot chocolate.
Cheese shop - they don't make Edam cheese in Edam.  Only for export.

Took bus 316 from Edam to Volendam.

VOLENDAM
Volendam is way more tourist focused.  The friendly tourist centre advised the ferries to Marken leave every 45 minutes and the next is at 1:30.

Strolled to the harbour. Observed houses painted black and white. Also deep green.

At the harbour, the ferry man who we did not pay, advised next ferry 2:15.

This caused a schism in the space time continuum.

Megan really really really wanted to go to Marken.  A search of the internet suggested a water taxi. Called them and... No.  Meanwhile, Megan advised Marcus we will be late for dinner.

To fill in time decided to have lunch.

Most excellent fish and chips down road from the harbour front.  Cod. Chips and for €1 extra a can of Heineken.

2:15 Ferry to Marken.
30 minutes.
Time to write blog.
